Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
DTB’s primary CAD software is the latest version of Autodesk Inventor (3D and 2D). We also have other in-house CAD software packages, including SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
The Inventor software is a solid model, 3D and 2D design/drafting system. We have the ability to interface with other CAD systems, such as CATIA, Pro-E, and UG/I-DEAS, through the use of many CAD software translators.
All design models and drawings are maintained within the latest database software, Autodesk Vault, which is housed on a dedicated server at DTB. Additionally, our design procedures are in alignment with AS9100D requirements. All drawings follow the appropriate engineering change and release procedures.

Engineering (CAE)
Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE)
Through DTB’s integrated computer network management and concurrent engineering systems, our engineering team is provided with a seamless process between engineering design, analysis, and manufacturing.
These systems provide a synergistic collaboration of engineering disciplines, which promotes efficiency and expediency with every engineering program. As a result, DTB has been able to lower product development costs, as well as shorten the design cycle process.
CAE Design Cycle Process:
- Stress analysis on components and assemblies using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Kinematics
- Mechanical event simulation (MES)
- Analysis tools for process simulation of operations, such as casting, molding, and die press forming
- Optimization of the product or process

Data Packages
With over 50 years of experience in engineering, design, and fabrication, DTB can provide reverse engineering techniques to develop your prototype and complete data package with materials and specifications that are ready for first article production or suitable for immediate procurement.
DTB can assist in the technical data package (TDP) development process by producing deliverable end-items in 3D solids, as well as production level drawing packages. Our drafting skills include the preparation of drawings for TDPs, in accordance with MIL-STD-31000; Engineering Drawing Practices, in accordance with ASME Y14.100; and Dimensioning and Tolerancing, in accordance with ASME Y14.5M.

Part Scanning
DTB can scan your product’s critical profiles using the latest measurement technology. Point clouds can be generated, imported, and evaluated in a CAD model for further development.
We can confirm compliance with your tolerances and display the results with color-coded printouts, including nominal part shape, tolerance bands, actual shape, and deviations. Additionally, we can accommodate your CAD files to define nominal part shape.

Kinematics Studies
DTB’s design team has performed kinematic analysis on many systems, including aircraft flight controls and mechanisms, as well as commercial industrial machinery.
Our kinematic engineering capabilities range from motion studies to the analysis of dynamic forces, velocities, accelerations, and the kinetic energy absorption of mechanical systems

Tolerancing (GD&T)
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
DTB’s design staff has been trained in the latest version of GD&T, per ASME Y14.5.
We can help you determine product tolerance requirements, as well as confirm the results, in our dimensional inspection laboratory. We are experienced in all concepts, including form, true position, and profile.
